This first National Census of Community-Based Corrections in Australia presents data on all offenders serving noncustodial court orders on the census date (June 30, 1986, for Tasmania; September 30, 1985, for Victoria; and June 30, 1985, for all other States and Territories).
Abstract
The data consist of general information on the demographic and social characteristics of all adult persons serving community-based orders and information on the types of offenses for which community-based orders are being served. Offender demographic and social characteristics encompass jurisdiction, age, sex, aboriginality, State and county of birth, prior known adult correctional history, marital status, employment, and education. The most serious offense for which persons are currently serving an order is indicated. Data by type of order being served include probation/supervised recognizance, attendance center order, community service/work order, fine option order, supervised suspended prison sentence, and presentence supervision orders. Postprison orders covered in the data are parole/license, aftercare probation/partially suspended sentence, and prerelease order. Appendixes contain the data collection form and the population aged 17 to 69 as of June 30, 1984 by jurisdiction, sex, and age. 36 tables and 3 figures.
