This report from the Australian Institute of Criminology presents data on crime and criminal offending in Australia for 2010.
Abstract
Highlights from this report include the following: overall, the number of recorded violent crimes decreased in Australia in 2010, except for offenses related to kidnapping and abduction; assault continued to have the highest rate of occurrence at 766 per 100,000; consistent with the previous 10 years, the rate of property crimes decreased in 2010; males continued to be the most common victims and the most common perpetrators of crime; recidivism rates for offenders returning to prison remained stable over the period 2006 to 2010; in 2010, persons aged 15-19 had the highest rate of offending of any age group; and the most common type of financial crime reported to authorities in 2010 was advanced fee/upfront payment scams. This report from the Australian Institute of Criminology presents facts and figures on crime and criminal offending in Australia for 2010. Data for the report were obtained from a variety of sources, primarily administrative datasets and surveys. Statistics are presented on the number of recorded crimes; profiles for crimes such as homicide, assault, sexual assault, and robbery; crime victimization; selected offender profiles; activity in the criminal courts and corrections; criminal justice resources; and child victims of crime and child maltreatment.
