This report highlights the activities of the Australian Institute of Criminology in 1992. The institute, whose members are appointed by the Attorney-General of Australia, strives to conduct high quality research, provide independent and expert advice, and disseminate national statistics and other criminal justice information.
Abstract
The introductory section reviews the institute's corporate goals and mission, legislative arrangements, organizational structure, and board of management. The research program for 1992 covered topics including crime prevention, drug abuse, environmental protection, indigenous and ethnic justice, juvenile justice, law enforcement, sentencing and courts, strategic crime assessment, treatment of offenders, victims, violence, white collar and corporate crime, and women and crime. The institute sponsored conferences on fraud, women and the law, serious violent offenders, Asia Pacific police technology, local government, the role of education and training in the criminal justice system, and patterns of homicide. This report also summarizes the occasional seminars, international initiatives, inservice education, and conference proceedings undertaken and published by the Institute in 1992. Finally, the report describes the J.V. Barry Library program, the publications program, and the directorate program of the institute. 4 appendixes
