A HIERARCHICAL CONTROL SCALE, MEASURING SUBJECTS' PREDILICTIONS FOR DECISION-MAKING AND CONTROL THROUGH REGULAR, CHAIN-OF-COMMAND CHANNELS, WAS ADMINISTERED TO TWO GROUPS OF POLICEMEN.
Abstract
THE HIERARCHICAL CONTROL SCALE WAS DEVELOPED TO DISTINGUISH PREFERENCES FOR SITUATIONS IN WHICH DECISIONS ARE MADE BY PERSONS IN POWER AND AUTHORITY FROM SITUATIONS IN WHICH DECISIONS REST WITH THE PERSON MOST AFFECTED, REGARDLESS OF STATUS. WHILE APPEARING TO MEASURE SOME OF THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE AUTHORITARIAN PERSONALITY, THIS SCALE DISCRIMINATES MORE BETWEEN POLICE AND NON-POLICE SUBJECTS THAN TRADITIONAL AUTHORITARIAN MEASURES.
