This report presents statistical information regarding time served in the California Department of Corrections (CDC) by 37,224 inmates released to parole for the first time.
Abstract
The total mean time served including pre-prison credits was 23.4 months for males, and 18.8 months for females. The median time served was 17 months. Statistical data are categorized according to violent offenses of homicide, robbery, assault, sex offenses, kidnapping, and property crimes of burglary, theft, drug offenses and other offenses such as driving under the influence, arson, and escape. The results show that violent offenders served the longest time in CDC facilities and also had the most pre-prison credits. A large difference was found between male and female offenders in the violent offense category.
