BOOKLET CONTAINS STATISTICAL AND DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION ON WOMEN IN AUSTRALIAN PRISONS.
Abstract
A LITTLE UNDER HALF THE WOMEN IN THE SURVEY WERE LESS THAN 25 YEARS OF AGE, AND 40 PERCENT OF THEM WERE SINGLE. A THREE YEAR FOLLOW-UP ON RECIDIVISM WAS ALSO CONDUCTED. SIXTY PERCENT OF THE WOMEN HAD AT LEAST ONE CHILD. THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE WOMEN WHEN THEY HAD LEFT SCHOOL WAS 14. ONE-THIRD OF THE WOMEN STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT EMPLOYED PRIOR TO INCARCERATION. FIFTY-0NE PERCENT OF THE WOMEN SAID THEY HAD HELD FROM TWO TO SIX JOBS. OTHER STATISTICAL INFORMATION GATHERED WAS ON THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARDS WORK, TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT PREFERRED, AND REASONS FOR IMPRISONMENT....BDS
