Abstract
Senators support their bail reform bills, included in the text, and attorneys testify on the legal distinctions under current law and comment on the problem judges' face in dealing with current bail standards. The hearing attempts to explore certain facts, such as a 1978 study by the D.C. Bail Agency showing that 65 percent of those released after an arrest for auto theft were taken into custody on another auto theft while out on bail. It reaches some conclusions about the variety of bills introduced. Law review articles and comments by bail bondsmen are appended.
