This handbook supplies common sense instructions on how new and experienced bank employees can deal with every phase of bank security, including situation tests and self-instruction questions.
Abstract
Chapters discuss ways of safeguarding cash and food stamps. The authors consider confidence schemes, frauds (on checking accounts, savings accounts, and loans), and counterfeiting, including phony stock certificates. The section on checks covers common check-passing and forgery schemes, counterfeit checks, and security for traveler's checks and government checks. Kiting -- use of a bad check to get money or credit from another bank -- is explained, as well as credit card security, electronic funds transfer, and defalcations (misusing funds or embezzling). Other chapters examine armed robbery (protective devices, bait money, what to do during and after a holdup) other emergencies (civil disturbances and bomb threats), and routine security precautions for audits, vaults, night deposit control, time lock procedures, and collateral. An index and sample security checklists are provided.
