Abstract
DATA ARE PROVIDED ON THE SIZE OF THE COMMUNITY WHERE THE BANK WAS LOCATED, THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE ROBBERIES OVER TIME, THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS PRESENT, AND THE PRESENCE AND PERFORMANCE OF SECURITY PRECAUTIONS. DATA ON THE OFFENDERS' METHODS OF OPERATION INCLUDE PLANNING AND PREPARATION, REASONS FOR FAILURE, USE OF FORCE, USE OF WEAPONS AND DISGUISES, AND MEANS OF ESCAPE. ALSO EXAMINED ARE THE BEHAVIOR OF THE VICTIMS, AMOUNT OF MONEY TAKEN, DURATION OF THE ROBBERY, RESPONSE TIME OF THE POLICE, AND CIRCUMSTANCES OF APPREHENSION. STATISTICS ON OFFENDER CHARACTERISTICS COVER AGE, MARITAL STATUS, PERSONALITY PROBLEMS, INTELLIGENCE, FAMILY BANKGROUND, EDUCATION, OCCUPATION, AND MOTIVATION.
