This curriculum, focusing on community relations and designed to facilitate performance-based law enforcement training, is part of a basic course series developed by California law enforcement trainers and criminal justice educators in cooperation with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Abstract
The curriculum covers tactical scenarios involving communication contacts and vehicle stops, as well as learning activities that concern police officer interaction with the public, crime risk and prevention concepts, telephone contacts, tactical communication, and problem- solving. Given a series of simulations, scenarios, video representations, role plays, word pictures, case studies, or other sets of facts depicting law enforcement interaction with the public, students are required to participate in discussions that address the roles and responsibilities of police officers, criteria commonly used by the public to evaluate police effectiveness, stereotypes about law enforcement, community policing concepts, current issues affecting police service delivery, and crime risk and activity assessment. The curriculum also covers victims, witnesses, public satisfaction with police services, police- community partnerships, and the importance of public education. 1 reference
