Abstract
This pocket guide details strategies for searching a crime scene, effective methods for protecting a crime scene from being compromised, essential tips for identifying, collecting and documenting and preserving evidence at the scene, and interviewing techniques to ensure maximum benefit from witnesses. In addition, the guide provides definitions for a variety of scientific, legal, and criminal terminology along with visual aids (i.e. photographs, diagrams, illustrations), to enhance one’s understanding. This pocket guide was developed as part of a training series, as a handy pocket reference and procedural tool to be utilized by law enforcement officers during any crime scene. The guide can be referred to prior to responding to a crime scene, after establishing a crime scene, or during the investigation of a crime scene. It aids in ensuring that law enforcement officers take the proper steps in investigating a crime scene.
