PRESENTATION OF BASIC SYSTEM DESIGN, DISCUSSION OF IMPACT ON COURT ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS, DESCRIPTION OF IMPLEMENTATION PLANS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPLEMENT THE SYSTEM THROUGHOUT THE STATE IN LARGE CIRCUIT COURTS.
Abstract
AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE SYSTEM'S CAPABILITY, THE ASSIGNMENT CLERK CAN DISPLAY ALL CASES SCHEDULED FOR A GIVEN COURT ON ANY ONE DAY. THIS SCHEDULE CAN BE FURTHER BROKEN DOWN BY JUDGE OR COURT INDICATING CASES SCHEDULED FOR PRETRIAL, TRIAL, AND APPEAL HEARINGS, WITH TRIAL HEARINGS BEING FURTHER SUBDIVIDED INTO JURY AND NON-JURY CASES. THE SYSTEM MAY ALSO BE USED TO GENERATE AUTOMATICALLY THE PAGES FOR THE APPEARANCE DOCKET JOURNAL, THUS ELIMINATING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR MANUAL POSTING AND UPDATING. FURTHER, THE CASE HISTORY RETRIEVAL CAPABILITY CAN ELIMINATE THE NEED TO PRODUCE THE DOCKET JOURNAL, AS SUCH, UNTIL SOME PERIOD AFTER CASE DISPOSITION. LATER, THE COMPUTER RECORDS CAN BE USED TO PRODUCE MICROFILM COPY OF THE CASE HISTORY/DOCKET JOURNAL, THEREBY ELIMINATING THE NEED FOR HARD COPY DOCKET JOURNALS AND THE RELATED COSTS OF FILING, STORAGE, BINDING, AND RECORD MAINTENANCE.
