THIS SLIDE SHOW FOR ARSON INVESTIGATOR-PHOTOGRAPHERS ILLUSTRATES CAMERA AND FILM SELECTION AND USE, AS WELL AS THE FUNDAMENTALS OF FIRE INVESTIGATION.
Abstract
THE PRESENTATION IS AIMED AT BOTH POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS, WITH SLIGHTLY MORE EMPHASIS ON THE LATTER. IT INCLUDES INFORMATION ON SUCH TOPICS AS THE NECESSITY OF TAKING MANY PICTURES DURING ALL PHASES OF A FIRE AND ITS AFTERMATH, HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH VARIOUS TYPES OF FIRE-AND-ARSON EVIDENCE, THE VALUE OF PHOTOGRAPHY AS A PUBLIC-RELATIONS MEDIUM, AND THE INVALUABLE ASSISTANCE IT OFFERS TO FIRE SAFETY INSPECTORS BY PROVIDING THEM WITH A TANGIBLE RECORD OF HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION, BECAUSE FIRE-AND-ARSON PHOTOGRAPHERS ARE FREQUENTLY FORCED TO WORK UNDER CONDITIONS OF DIM ILLUMINATION AT NIGHT OR IN CHARRED DARKENED INTERIORS, A LENGTHY DISCUSSION IS INCLUDED OF FLASH PRINCIPLES AND TECHNIQUES.
