Abstract
Discussions on legal aspects, operational directives, and use-of-force policy provide a broad framework for the administrator as well as the training officer. Chapters on skills measurement, training aids, attitude and imaging, and mental conditioning enhance and expedite the learning process. The baton drills are designed for situations where the officer must deal with multiple suspects, and specific quick-response exercises further ensure officer survival. The text also provides insights into the training process and discusses in simple language technical concepts such as vicarious liability and its relationship to departmental policy. Numerous photographs illustrate the various techniques. Appendixes contain a baton training bulletin and a baton policy format. (Author abstract modified)
