Unstructured interviews conducted with 32 battered wives living in a shelter in Israel were used to collect data on the premarital relations between the victims and their fiances from a phenomenological perspective.
Abstract
The best predictor of future wife battering was the fiance's patriarchal attitude rather than any dating violence. Patriarchy was also common among the fathers of the battered women, indicating that they chose to move from one male-dominated home to another. A home environment which led women to accept male authority also influenced their decisions to marry when young and inexperienced. 24 references (Author abstract modified)
