Abstract
AFTER DESCRIBING A BRITISH PROJECT WHICH PROVIDES AID AND SERVICES TO BATTERED WOMEN - CHISWICK WOMEN'S AID - THE BOOKLET DISCUSSES WHY BATTERED WOMEN RESORT TO USING THE LEGAL PROCESS. A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO USE OF THE LEGAL PROCESS IS FOLLOWED BY A DISCUSSION OF WHAT CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH THE USE OF THE LAW. SEVERAL POSSIBLE AREAS OF DIFFICULTY THAT MAY BE ENCOUNTERED WHEN RESORTING TO THE LEGAL PROCESS ARE NOTED, INCLUDING DIFFICULTY IN OBTAINING LEGAL COUNSEL, THE SLOW WORKINGS OF THE COURT, AND PROBLEMS IN OBTAINING EMERGENCY LEGAL AID.
