STUDY OF THE PERSONNEL NEEDS OF A POLICE DEPARTMENT STAFFED BY 174 SWORN OFFICERS AND 29 CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES, SERVING A POPULATION OF 120,000 OVER AN AREA OF 72 SQUARE MILES.
Abstract
AN INCREASE IN THE POLICE WORKLOAD AND A REPORTED INCREASE IN SERIOUS CRIMES PROMPTED THE REQUEST FOR THIS STUDY. THE CONSULTANT INTERVIEWED KEY PERSONNEL; COLLECTED AND ANALYZED PERTINENT STATISTICAL DATA, DEPARTMENT CHARTS AND RECORDS, AND MADE A FIRSTHAND EVALUATION OF THE PATROL TECHNIQUES BEING UTILIZED. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PRESENTED INCLUDING THE SUGGESTION THAT A BEAT STUDY BE STARTED IMMEDIATELY. VARIOUS PERSONNEL ASSIGNMENT CHANGES ARE DISCUSSED.
