Using a self-instructional format, this behavior management correspondence course is designed to contribute to the positive management of youth in juvenile facilities.
Abstract
The course is intended to help juvenile facility staff evaluate their effectiveness in managing juvenile behavior and to help them teach juveniles self-control and other appropriate behaviors. The course is comprised of 10 chapters: Introduction to Behavior Management; Understanding the Behavior of Juvenile Offenders; Punishment and Discipline; Building Relationships; Communicating Effectively; Interacting With Juvenile Offenders; Assessing the Juvenile and the Environment; Intervention Techniques; Returning to Normal; and Creating a Healthy Environment. Each chapter contains objectives, textual material, questions, and an answer key. A final test and answer sheet are included in the second part of the course manual. References and photographs
