DESCRIPTIONS OF FIVE CRIME PREVENTION-RELATED BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED TO ILLUSTRATE THE TYPES OF TECHNIQUES THAT MAY BE EMPLOYED AND THE EFFECT THESE PROGRAMS MAY HAVE ON REHABILITATION.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR FIRST OUTLINES TRADITIONAL OBJECTIONS TO THE USE OF BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION AND DESCRIBES THE BENEFITS OF EMPLOYING A BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION APPROACH. THE PROJECTS DESCRIBED INVOLVE A RESIDENTIAL TOKEN-ECONOMY TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENTS; A DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR INMATES; BEHAVIORAL TRAINING IN APPROPRIATE ASSERTIVE BEHAVIOR FOR INMATES; BEHAVIORAL MODIFICATION OF SEX OFFENDERS; AND AN ALCOHOLIC AND DRUG ADDICTION TREATMENT PROGRAM. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THESE PROGRAMS DEMONSTRATE THE VALUE OF BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION PROGRAMS BOTH IN PREVENTING CRIMES AND IN HELPING OFFENDERS OVERCOME PROBLEMS THEY WISH TO BE RID OF BUT CANNOT CHANGE BY THEMSELVES.
