PART OF A SET OF EDUCATIONAL BOOKLETS DESIGNED TO TRAIN CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL TO USE THE BASIC TECHNIQUES OF BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION IN THE MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION OF INMATES IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
Abstract
THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER CONSISTS OF 17 TRAINING BOOKLETS EACH WITH PRE- AND POSTTESTS, AN INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE, AND A PACKAGE OF CONTINGENCY CONTRACTS. THE TRAINING BOOKLETS ARE SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL. THE MATERIAL TO BE LEARNED AND ALL DIRECTIONS TO THE TRAINEES ARE CONTAINED WITHIN THE BOOKLETS. EACH TRAINEE GOES THROUGH EACH BOOKLET AT HIS OWN RATE. AS PART OF THE LEARNING PROCESS, EACH TRAINEE IS DIRECTED TO WRITE HIS ANSWERS IN THE BOOKLETS. THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER TRAINING PACKAGE IS DESIGNED PRIMARILY FOR CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS WHO CAN READ AT THE EIGHTH-GRADE LEVEL AND HIGHER. THE CONCEPTS AND BASIC OPERATIONS INVOLVED IN BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION ARE PRESENTED IN THE BOOKLETS AS SIMPLY AS IS POSSIBLE AND PRACTICAL. HOWEVER, SINCE THE CONCEPTS AND OPERATIONS VARY IN COMPLEXITY, THE BOOKLETS ALSO GRADUALLY INCREASE IN COMPLEXITY, FROM BOOKLET ONE TO SEVENTEEN. SOME CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS, THOUGH OTHERWISE CAPABLE AND CONSCIENTIOUS IN THEIR WORK, MAY BE UNABLE TO BENEFIT FROM THE LATTER BOOKLETS. EACH BOOKLET IS AN ENTITY CONTAINING A CONCEPT OR AN OPERATION WHICH CAN, BY ITSELF, BE OF VALUE TO THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER IN MANAGING INMATE BEHAVIOR. FOR OTHER BOOKLETS IN THE SET, SEE NCJ-18217 THROUGH 18233 AND 18235 THROUGH 18235. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
