Abstract
BEHAVIOR THERAPY HAS EXPERIENCED A PHENOMENAL GROWTH IN THE LAST TEN YEARS, YET IT IS ONLY RECENTLY THAT IT HAS BEEN REPORTED WITH JUVENILE DELINQUENTS. THE GOAL OF THIS TEXT IS TO BRING TOGETHER SEVERAL MAJOR REPORTS OF BEHAVIOR THERAPY WITH DELINQUENTS IN ONE REFERENCE VOLUME. THE BOOK HAS BEEN ORGANIZED IN FOUR PARTS WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO EACH BY THE EDITOR. PART ONE CONTAINS PAPERS INTRODUCING THE READER TO BEHAVIOR THERAPY AND PAPERS DISCUSSING BASIC SCIENTIFIC, ETHICAL, AND PRACTICAL ISSUES. PART TWO PRESENTS RESEARCH CONCERNS SUCH AS THE REINFORCEMENT OF INSTITUTIONAL BEHAVIOR. BEHAVIOR THERAPY IS BEING APPLIED EXTENSIVELY IN INSTITUTIONS FOR DELINQUENTS, E.G. THE USE OF AVERSIVE GROUP THERAPY, AND CHAPTERS DESCRIBING SUCH PROGRAMS ARE FOUND IN PART THREE. FINALLY, BEHAVIOR THERAPY, AS IT HAS BEEN APPLIED IN THE COMMUNITY, IS PRESENTED IN PART FOUR AND INCLUDES ARTICLES ON SOCIAL REINFORCEMENT EXPERIMENTATION AND TOKEN REINFORCEMENT PROCEDURES. THIS TEXT IS INTENDED AS A REFERENCE WORK FOR INDIVIDUALS EITHER CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF IMPROVING THE BEHAVIOR OF YOUNG CRIMINALS OR INTERESTED IN THIS GOAL. ALTHOUGH IT DEALS SPECIFICALLY WITH YOUNG OFFENDERS, THE PRINCIPLES DISCUSSED SHOULD APPLY TO ADULT CRIMINALS AS WELL. (SNI ABSTRACT)
