STUDY EXAMINING THE INTERRELATIONSHIPS AMONG BEHAVIORAL, PERSONALITY, AND SOCIAL BACKGROUND CHARACTERISTICS OF YOUTHS ACCEPTED INTO NEW YORK'S EXPERIMENTAL DIVISION FOR YOUTH (DFY) FACILITIES AS RELATED TO CERTAIN OUTCOMES.
Abstract
THE AIM OF THE STUDY WAS TO DEVELOP A PREDICTION EQUATION TO ASCERTAIN AT THE TIME A YOUTH IS FIRST CONSIDERED FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO TREATMENT WHETHER HE WILL ADJUST TO A GIVEN PROGRAM, WHETHER TREATMENT WILL CHANGE HIM, WHETHER HE IS LIKELY TO COMPLETE TREATMENT, OR WHETHER HE IS LIKELY TO BE ARRESTED WITHIN TWO YEARS OF LEAVING THE PROGRAM. FACTOR ANALYSES OF STAFF PERSONALITY EVALUATION OF INMATES, IMMATE SELF-RATING AND PEER RATING USING THE SCALE USED FOR STAFF EVALUATIONS, PERSONALITY INVENTORY SCORE, SOCIAL CLIMATE SCALE, AND SOCIAL DEMOGRAPHIC DATA WERE CONDUCTED. THE MAJOR FINDING OF THE RESEARCH WAS THAT THERE WAS SUCH A LOW-LEVEL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WITHIN-PROGRAM ADJUSTMENT AND POST-RELEASE ADJUSTMENT THAT THE PREDICTION OF WITHIN-PROGRAM ADJUSTMENT BECAME MEANINGLESS.
