This report presents a set of substance use and mental health indicators on the behavioral health of the Nation.
The intent of this report is to provide an overview of the Nation's behavioral health at a point in time as well as way to track changes and trends over time. The data in the report is presented in six categories: Youth Substance Use, Youth Mental Health and Treatment, Adult Mental Health and Treatment, Substance Use, Substance Use Treatment, and Medicare Enrollees. Youth substance use and mental health indicators are presented for marijuana use, nonmedical pain reliever use, illicit drug use, cigarette use, age at first use and risk perceptions, depression, and treatment for depression. Indicators for adult mental health, substance use, and substance use treatment include thoughts of suicide, serious mental illness, treatment for serious mental illness, alcohol dependence and abuse, illicit drug dependence and abuse, heavy alcohol use, enrollment and treatment focus, alcohol, opioids, and illicit drugs.
