PHYSICAL TRAINING IS BENEFICICAL BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY, AND IS OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO DEAL EFFECTIVELY WITH THE DANGERS INVOLVED IN THEIR WORK.
Abstract
THE MENTAL BENEFITS OF TRAINING INCLUDE LESSENING OF DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND HOSTILITY THROUGH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. PERSONS WHO FOLLOW A REGULAR ROUTINE OF PHYSICAL TRAINING USUALLY FIND THAT THEIR SELF-CONFIDENCE INCREASES AND THEY FEEL MORE OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THEIR ABILITY TO HANDLE THEMSELVES IN DIFFICULT SITUATIONS. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY HELPS TO ALLEVIATE STRESS AND LEADS TO A CALMER ATTITUDE OF MIND. WHEN TRAINING INVOLVES AN OPPONENT, THE MARTIAL ARTS ARE OF SPECIAL CONCERN. IN ADDITION TO THE POSITIVE VALUE OF THE PHYSICAL TRAINING ITSELF, THE MARTIAL ARTS PROVIDE AN UNPARALLELED OPPORTUNITY FOR SELF-UNDERSTANDING AND UNDERSTANDING OF OTHERS. UNDER THESE CONDITIONS IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO HIDE INDIVIDUAL CHARACTER. OVER THE COURSE OF TRAINING IT PROVIDES AN INTUITIVE FEELING FOR THE CHARACTER OF OTHERS. THESE CONCEPTS ARE OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO, WITH THESE SKILLS, CAN SUBDUE AN ATTACKER IN A WAY WHICH INFLICTS THE MINIMUM INJURY. DEFENSIVE TACTICS SUCH AS DISARMING AN ATTACKER CARRYING A GUN, CAN BE LEARNED THROUGH INTENSIVE TRAINING IN THE MARTIAL ARTS AND GREATLY AID THE POLICEMAN IN FACING THE DANGERS OF HIS WORK. (STB)
