A COLLECTION OF ARTICLES ON CRIME IN NEBRASKA PREPARED BY STUDENTS OF THE SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA, COVERING THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF CRIME, THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND CORRECTIONS.
Abstract
THIS PUBLICATION PRESENTS A SPECTRUM OF PEOPLE, PLACES, AND CIRCUMSTANCES IDENTIFIED WITH CRIME AND ITS PREVENTION AS SEEN BY THE STUDENTS WHO CONDUCTED INTERVIEWS, MADE ON-SITE VISITS, AND STUDIED THE EVIDENCE. CAUSES OF CRIME, SUCH AS URBAN CONDITIONS AND PUBLIC APATHY AND ACCEPTANCE ARE DISCUSSED. THE INCREASING CRIME RATE AND INCREASING LOSSES INCURRED AS A RESULT OF CRIME ARE ALSO REPORTED. VICTIMS, VICTIMLESS CRIMES, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN CRIME PREVENTION ARE EXAMINED AS WELL. OTHER TOPICS COVERED IN THIS REPORT INCLUDE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, POLICE FUNCTIONS, COURTS, EQUALITY AND DISCRIMINATION IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND THE PROBLEMS OF CORRECTIONS.
