Abstract
The conference was held in New York City from March 21-22, 2012, and included workshops and plenary sessions. Workshop topics on the first day included models of clinical support between case managers, attorneys and counselors; cutting edge anti-trafficking legislation; dimensions of human trafficking and identification; challenges to law enforcement agencies on identifying victims of trafficking/trauma; health and reproductive rights of trafficked persons; temporary visa workers vulnerability to exploitation; and legislative and social services response to youth involvement in the sex trade. Workshop topics for the second day of the conference included collaborating with workers' rights groups; understanding the boundaries of privilege and confidentiality; practical tools for addressing the effects of trauma in survivors and service providers; obtaining economic justice for trafficked workers; and consular processing and family reunification strategies. The two plenary sessions were a survivors' panel and a discussion on the work of the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security towards trafficked persons.
