Data are reported for the period April to September 2015 on the achievements and performance of grantees under the Technology Careers Program, which was established through the Federal Second Chance Act (SCA) of 2007, which was enacted to provide Federal support for jurisdictions in developing and implementing comprehensive and collaborative strategies that address the challenges of adjustment and socioeconomic development for persons released from prison or jail.
Abstract
The Technology Careers Program provides funding for educational and training programs for inmates that prepare them to work in technology fields after their release. For the period April-September 2014, 600 new (pre-release only) participants were enrolled; this number increased to 910 new (pre-release only) participants in the same period for 2015. During the first half of FY 2015, 84 percent (263 participants) of all pre-release participants who successfully completed the program were classified as either moderate or high risk for reoffending. In the second half of FY 2015, the percentage decreased to 69 percent (329 participants). Overall, the completion rate for the program by quarter was 78 percent (pre-release only). Information is provided on training and technical assistance designed to improve outcomes for the Technology Careers Program. 7 figures and 4 tables
