EXAMINATION OF METHODS TO COMBAT THE INCREASING INCIDENCE OF BICYCLE THEFT.
Abstract
SUGGESTIONS ARE PROVIDED FOR DEALING WITH BICYCLE THEFT THROUGH IMPROVED IDENTIFICATION METHODS, BETTER BICYCLE LOCKING AND PARKING SYSTEMS, AND HEIGHTENED AWARENESS OF THE PROBLEM BY BICYCLE OWNERS. DATA WAS GATHERED FROM RESPONSES TO A SURVEY CONDUCTED IN 50 LARGE CITIES AND 200 COLLEGE CAMPUSES AND A QUESTIONNAIRE STUDY OF SECURE BICYCLE PARKING FACILITIES. TABLES OF DATA DERIVED FROM A SERIES OF BICYCLE LOCK TESTS SHOW THE ABILITY OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ANTI-THEFT PRODUCTS TO WITHSTAND ATTACK BY DIFFERENT TOOLS OF THE BIKE THIEF.
