STATISTICAL ANALYSIS CORRELATING DATA ON SOCIAL BACKGROUND, BIOPSYCHOLOGICAL DISTURBANCES, AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY IN GROUPS OF DELINQUENTS AND NON-DELINQUENTS IN POLAND.
Abstract
INFORMATION WAS DERIVED FROM BIOGRAPHICAL INTERVIEWS WITH THE YOUTHS ON THE ONE HAND AND WITH THE MOTHERS ON THE OTHER. SOME ELEMENTS OF THE JUDICIAL COURT RECORDS AND RESULTS OBTAINED BY THE YOUTHS ON RAVEN'S PROGRESSIVE MATRICES TEST WERE ALSO USED. FACTS RELATING TO BIOPSYCHOLOGICAL DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED BY THE YOUTHS WERE COLLATED BY FACTORIAL ANALYSIS AND A CUMULATIVE INDEX WAS ESTABLISHED. THE AUTHOR RECORDS A HIGHER INCIDENCE OF BIOPSYCHOLOGICAL DISTURBANCES AMONG DELINQUENTS, PARTICULARLY AMONG RECIDIVISTS. THE AUTHOR ALSO NOTES A RELATION BETWEEN THESE DISTURBANCES AND FAMILY AND SCHOOL PROBLEMS AND INDICATES, IN CONCLUSION, THAT IF THEY DO NOT PLAY A DETERMINANT ROLE IN THE GENESIS OF DEVIANCY AND DELINQUENCY BIOPSYCHOLOGICAL DISTURBANCES NEVERTHELESS FAVOUR THEIR OCCURRENCE.
