Abstract
The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement provided policy direction to statewide law enforcement agencies and administered the program. The activities focused on nine areas: apprehension, prosecution/adjudication, indigent defendants, asset forfeiture, demand reduction, intensive supervision/pretrial detention, intensive incarceration/treatment, treatment of adult offenders, and information systems. Specific activities included improved efforts to increase arrests, prosecution, and conviction of drug offenders; resources for personnel, overtime, equipment, and confidential funds for law enforcement programs; specialized training of law enforcement personnel in drug law enforcement; continued training of prosecutors assigned to narcotics cases; and continued assistance to courts for their delay reduction efforts. Further activities included training for police officers in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program; support for inmate drug treatment; and improved data on drug-related violent crime; serious offenders, and criminal history records.
