Abstract
The police brochure explaining the Blue Ash Neighborhood Watch program outlines program goals and activities, presents facts on burglary, explains the purpose of program meetings, and encourages persons to join the program. The training manual first discusses citizen and police individual and joint responsibility for crime prevention, followed by a brief description of the Neighborhood Watch Program. A listing of steps for residential safety and security encompasses such suggestions and participation in Operation Identification (number identification of property to facilitate recovery and make fencing difficult), lighting, admitting strangers to the house, vacation procedures, and using appropriate locks. A step-by-step procedure is presented for telephone reporting of an emergency, and a directory of phone numbers is provided for city services that might be needed by citizens. Suspicious activities and their possible significance are listed, along with what to notice in developing a complete physical profile of a suspicious person and a suspicious car. Forms for reporting suspicious incidents and detailing the description of a person are provided.
