EMERGING POLICE MILITANCY, IF UNRESTRAINED, POSES THREAT OF EVENTUAL CREATION OF POLICE STATE.
Abstract
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF MILITANT POLICEMEN WHICH HAVE EMERGED OVER RECENT YEARS. ONE IS THE OFFICER WHO VIEWS HIS JOB AS A MEANS TO A POLITICAL OR IDEOLOGICAL END. THE OTHER IS THE OFFICER WHO SEES LAWFUL RESTRAINTS ON POLICE POWER AS UNNECESSARY FORMALITIES WHICH MAY BE IGNORED. THE POLICE MILITANT MOVEMENT IS DIVIDED ON RACIAL GROUNDS BETWEEN CAUCASIAN AND NEGRO, THE LATTERS GROUP MILITANCY BEING DIRECTED AGAINST THE WHITE POLICEMAN. THE ARTICLE INCLUDES SPECIFIC ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE EXISTENCE AND MANIFESTATIONS OF THE MOVEMENT AND A PETITIONING FOR CURTAILMENT OF ITS GROWTH.
