This document presents the values, goals, objectives, activities, and standards for the measurement of progress of the Boston Police Department.
Abstract
The document is the product of an effort, initiated after the appointment of Francis M. Roache as police commissioner in 1985, to develop a performance review system. Five values, 28 accomplishments during the past 2 years, and 3 basic goals are listed. The goals are to improve the delivery of police services to the neighborhoods, provide the necessary tools for service delivery, and maintain a strong working relationship with the neighborhoods. Specific goals, objectives, activities, responsible departments, and reporting schedules are listed for each component of the six major units: (1) Bureau of Administrative Services, (2) Bureau of Field Services, (3) Informational Services Division, (4) Bureau of Investigative Services, (5) Bureau of Neighborhood Services, and (6) Bureau of Professional Standards. Standards for measuring progress are also included.
