The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles presents its annual report for fiscal year October 1, 1991 to September 30, 1992 to Governor Jim Folsom, Jr.
Abstract
This annual report includes a brief history of the board and the granting of parole and probation in the State of Alabama. It also includes a description of how probation and parole decisions are made in Alabama. Duties of the board and its staffing are detailed. The annual budget is listed and illustrated in pie chart form. The total expenditure was $14,225,030, of which $10,415,530 went to pay employee costs. Totals and county- by-county statistics on probations granted and revoked and paroles granted and revoked are provided. According to a study of parole cases between October 1, 1989 and September 30, 1992, in 29.5-percent of cases parole was revoked and in .37 percent of cases it was revoked for commission of a crime of violence. Probation was looked at over a 53-year period during which 14 percent of probations were revoked. Graphs illustrate the growth of probation and parole staff and the numbers of offenders under the supervision of the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole. 6 graphs, 8 tables
