Abstract
THE SUBJECT AREAS COVERED IN THE MANUAL INCLUDE: CATEGORIES OF BOATING ACCIDENTS; ACCIDENT RESPONSE PROCEDURES; STEPS IN BOATING ACCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS; INFORMATION TO BE OBTAINED DURING INVESTIGATION; PHYSICAL EVIDENCE; AND THE ACCIDENT DIAGRAM. OTHER TOPICS INCLUDE: DATA COLLECTION FROM INTERVIEWS; REPORT WRITING; BOATING ACCIDENT REPORT-FILING REQUIREMENTS; AND PREPARATION OF THE BOATING ACCIDENT REPORT. THIS MANUAL IS INTENDED FOR THE TRAINED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO MAY HAVE A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF BOATING AND YET HAS RECREATIONAL BOATING AREAS WITHIN HIS JURISDICTION. IT WILL SERVE AS A GUIDE TO THE OFFICER WHO ARRIVES AT THE SCENE OF A BOATING ACCIDENT AS HE SEARCHES FOR CONTRIBUTING FACTORS THROUGH WITNESS INFORMATION AND PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. ALTHOUGH MUCH OF THE MATERIAL HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED IN THE IACP TRAINING KEYS, THIS POCKET-SIZE BINDER IS EASILY ACCESSBILE BY THE OFFICER IN THE FIELD.
