Since the popularity of boot camp programs has skyrocketed, the American Correctional Association (ACA) has developed standards for operating both adult and juvenile boot camp programs.
Abstract
In addition to straightforward benefits of standards and accreditation, the ACA's boot camp standards provide critical assistance in planning new boot camp programs. The standards address the following key issues: purpose and mission; size, location, and organization; training and staff development; and rules and discipline. The standards facilitate the development of boot camp programs, recognize the unique nature of boot camps and the importance of specialized staff training, and acknowledge the challenges posed by establishing and maintaining inmate rules and discipline.
