This article describes different types of footwear that suit various police officer needs.
Abstract
The author states that the most personal part of a police officer’s uniform is his or her footwear. When choosing footwear for work purposes, officers should consider their primary job function and choose the shoe that is most applicable to the job. In order to help officers choose the right footwear, the author presents a sample of the footwear that is available. Cove Shoe Division offers a variety of military and tactical-style footwear models. Rocky Shoes and Boots produces footwear that features a flexible outsole for natural movement and a thick sole for maximum shock absorption on hard surfaces. The Weinbrenner Shoe Company offers boots with maximum ankle stability to cut down on twisted ankles and falls. These shoes are touted as comfortable because of their airbag technology and PVC foam springs in the forefoot and heel. Bates Uniform Footwear has introduced two updated boot styles that are based on biomedical research. These boots feature an extremely lightweight design that helps to reduce foot and body fatigue. Original SWAT footwear produces lightweight boots that are designed to feel like athletic shoes, while 3rd Watch Footwear makes footwear specifically for emergency service personnel. Magnum Boots are the last company that is presented. This company offers a lightweight boot designed to give police officers greater agility while on the job. The author also presents the basics of footwear construction in order to further educate police officers on what is available.
