COLLECTED RESULTS OF A LARGE EMPIRICAL STUDY CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE TYPES OF BOYS RECEIVING BORSTAL TRAINING, THE PARAMETERS WHICH AFFECT SUCCESS RATES, AND THE OVERALL EFFICACY OF THE PRESENT BORSTAL APPROACH.
Abstract
IN PRESENTING THE CONGLOMERATE CHARACTERISTICS OF BORSTAL BOYS. THE VARIOUS SMALL REPORTS COMPRISING THIS DOCUMENT CONCLUDE THAT THERE IS INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR ACCURATELY DEFINING TYPES OF BOYS AND LINKING THOSE TYPES TO PREDICTABLE SUCCESS RATES. THE REPORTS LOOK AT SUCH THINGS AS PERSONALITY INVENTORIES, ABSCONDING RATES, EFFECTS OF LENGTH OF SENTENCE, AND EFFECTS OF EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING. IT IS GENERALLY CONCLUDED THAT MORE COMPREHENSIVE DATA COLLECTION AND MONITORING PROCEDURES ARE NEEDED BEFORE MAJOR CHANGES COULD BE CONTEMPLATED. SEVERAL REPORTS FOCUS ON THE SYSTEM'S CLASSIFICATION AND ALLOCATION METHODS AND A RESEARCH DESIGN FOR THIS AREA IS PROPOSED.
