THIS STUDY COMPARES THE RETIREMENT BENEFITS FOR BOSTON POLICE WITH TEN OTHER CITIES AND MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS THAT WOULD LOWER THE FULL BENEFIT RETIREMENT AGE AND CAUSE THE DEPARTMENT TO HIRE MEN AT A YOUNGER AGE.
Abstract
THE BOSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE COMPARATIVELY HIGH AVERAGE AGE OF ITS FORCE. THE STUDY CONFIRMED THIS AND MADE RECOMMENDATIONS TO REJUVENATE THE FORCE THAT INCLUDE MANDATORY RETIREMENT AFTER SIX MONTHS ON MEDICAL DISABILITY AND SUBSTANTIAL INDUCEMENTS FOR EARLY RETIREMENT.
