FINAL REPORT ON A PROJECT TO IMPROVE RESIDENTIAL SECURITY IN BOSTON'S HIGH-RISE PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS THROUGH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CENTRAL SECURITY OFFICE, WITHIN THE BOSTON HOUSING AUTHORITY.
Abstract
IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PROJECT GOALS, THE CENTRAL SECURITY OFFICE STAFF ESTABLISHED LIAISON WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND TENANTS, BECAME FAMILIAR WITH THE SOCIAL AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MULTISTORY DEVELOPMENTS, MET WITH 26 DEVELOPMENTS' TENANT TASK FORCES TO ORIENT THEM TO THE CENTRAL SECURITY OFFICE, INSTALLED A CENTRAL SECURITY MAINTENANCE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, FORMULATED A MANPOWER, HARDWARE, AND SOCIAL ACTION SECURITY PROGRAM, EXPLORED FUNDING POSSIBILITIES, AND EDUCATED AND HELPED TENANTS DEVELOP SELF-HELP CRIME CHECK PROGRAMS FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES.
