This video describes public-private partnerships to aid youthful offenders in Alabama.
Abstract
The video describes how the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama, Inc., work with private and public organizations to assist youths who are in trouble with the law or at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. Camp Martin Leadership Academy provides training and educational programs for adolescent males in a military-type setting. Parents or guardians participate in the program, which helps the young men learn life skills as well as academic subjects. The Wilderness Challenge course includes extensive physical development exercises as well as life skills and vocational training. Both programs include aftercare involving parents or guardians. Young women participate in Program GROWTH, which teaches life skills, parenting and academic skills in both day-care and residential settings. All programs teach problem solving and help young people change their behavior. After graduating from these programs youth are eligible for POINTE Academy, which helps them finish high school or acquire a GED.
