A NEW MUNICIPAL CODE REQUIRING SECURITY HARDWARE TO BE INSTALLED ON COMMERCIAL AND CERTAIN RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NEARLY A ONE-THIRD REDUCTION IN BURGLARIES.
Abstract
TOWNHOUSE AND GARDEN APARTMENTS WERE INCLUDED IN THE LEGISLATION THAT REQUIRES ALL OPENINGS TO BE PROTECTED. ELECTRIC ALARM INSTALLATION WAS NOT REQUIRED. WITH A FEW SIGNIFICANT VARIATIONS, THIS CODE IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE ADVOCATED BY THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE. THE TEXT OF THE ORDINANCE IS REPRODUCED.
