Abstract
FIGURES ON THE VALUE OF PROPERTY STOLEN AND RECOVERED IN ENGLAND AND WALES, THE METROPOLITAN AREA, SCOTLAND, AND NORTHERN IRELAND ARE PROVIDED. THE 81.3 MILLION POUND LOSS TOTAL FOR 1973 WAS 5.5 MILLION POUND MORE THAN THE 1972 TOTAL, IN SPITE OF A LOWER VOLUME OF CRIMES RECORDED BY THE POLICE DURING THE PREVIOUS YEAR. STATISTICS ARE ALSO PROVIDED FOR THEFT LOSSES DURING THE LAST TEN YEARS, THEFT LOSS IN THE METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT FOR 1972 AND 1973, VEHICLE AND OTHER THEFT LOSSES IN SOME PROVINCIAL AREAS, AND A TWO-YEAR COMPARISON OF VALUES INVOLVED IN BURGLARIES AND THEFTS IN ENGLAND AND WALES.
