MASTER PLAN AND PHYSICAL FACILITIES PROPOSAL BASED ON AN ANALYSIS OF COMMUNITY BASED CORRECTIONAL NEEDS OF BROWARD COUNTY.
Abstract
RESEARCH FOR THIS PROGRAM TREATED THE EXISTING FACILITIES, POPULATION AND CRIME AREAS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION, AND VITAL SUPPORT FUNCTIONS OF BROWARD COUNTY. A MASTER PLAN IS PROPOSED TO SATISFY THE RECOMMENDATIONS MADE AS A RESULT OF THE STUDY OF THE COUNTY NEEDS. COST PROJECTIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR BROWARD COUNTY'S PRESENT CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM AND THE PROPOSED SYSTEM WITH ITS ALTERNATIVES AND RECOMMENDATIONS. NEEDS OF THE MODERN DAY CORRECTIONAL CENTER ARE ANALYZED FROM AN ARCHITECTURAL VIEWPOINT. CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN TO CURRENT CORRECTIONAL TRENDS AND SUCH DESIGN ELEMENTS AS SECURITY, CIRCULATION, MAINTENANCE, EXPANSION AND FLEXIBILITY, SCALE, AND COLOR. THE REPORT OUTLINES THE FUNCTIONS AND NEEDS OF AN UNSENTENCED FACILITY PROGRAM, A MUNICIPAL HOLDING FACILITY PROGRAM, HALF-WAY HOUSE AND DETOXIFICATION CENTER PROGRAMS, AND A FACILITY FOR FEMALES. DESIGNS AND CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR EACH FACILITY. FOR VOLUME 1 OF THIS STUDY SEE NCJ 12228.
