Abstract
PERSONNEL CHANGES WHICH TOOK PLACE DURING THE PROGRAM'S OPERATION ARE DESCRIBED. EVALUATION ACTIVITIES CONSISTED OF SITE VISITS TO THE BUCKS COUNTY PRISON AND THE REHABILITATION CENTER, INTERVIEWS WITH PRISON OFFICIALS, INMATES, AND VOLUNTEERS, AND MEASUREMENT OF THE DEGREE OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS PRESENTED IN EARLIER EVALUATIONS. FIFTY-SIX VOLUNTEERS, AND HALF THE STAFF RESPONDED TO QUESTIONNAIRES. THESE RESPONSES WERE ANALYZED WITH RESPECT TO YEAR-TO-YEAR CHANGES. IT WAS FOUND THAT IMPROVEMENT HAD BEEN MADE IN ALL AREAS COVERED BY THE RECOMMENDATIONS, MOST NOTABLY IN THE AREAS OF USING MORE VOLUNTEERS IN COMMUNITY SETTINGS AND PROVIDING MORE SERVICES TO WOMEN. IMPACT OF THE PROJECT ON COMMUNITY AWARENESS, INMATES, AND THE VOLUNTEERS ARE DISCUSSED. IMPACT WAS GENERALLY FOUND TO BE FAVORABLE. THE RESULTS OF A CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS ENVIRONMENTAL SCALE (CIES) TEST ADMINISTERED TO STAFF AND INMATES ARE REPORTED. FAVORABLE IMPLICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT WERE FOUND AT THE REHABILITATION CENTER, WHILE THE NEED FOR AN EASILY COMPREHENDED AND ADMINISTERED VOLUNTEER PROGRAM WAS SHOWN IN THE BUCKS COUNTY PRISON.
