This report evaluates gender-specific programming in Alaska to deal with female juvenile delinquents.

Abstract

This report presents the results of an evaluation of gender specific delinquency programs in Alaska. Funding was received to establish a basis for future evaluations of gender specific caseloads and to provide materials to assist with the formulation of future programs and future evaluations. Three tasks were involved in setting a base for future evaluations of the program: reviewing recent literature on female delinquency and gender specific programming; developing a local resource manual; and establishing baseline data. This report is divided into five sections. 1) Building Evaluation Capacity for Gender-Specific Programming discusses the background and evaluation issues of this project; 2) Gender-Specific Programming: Bibliography; 3) Young Women's Resource List contains a list of programs specifically for young women and a list of programs serving both young women and young men or women of all ages; 4) Baseline Juvenile Justice Data for Anchorage by Gender includes detention data for 1998-2000 and referral data for 1992-1995; and 5) Gender Effects in the Alaska Juvenile Justice System contains descriptive data and analyses on the characteristics of boys and girls referred to the Alaska juvenile justice system.
