Intended for community leaders, parent groups, and human service providers and administrators, this manual explains the basic concepts, methods, and issues in evaluations and provides step-by-step instructions for evaluating family support programs.
Abstract
Both formative and summative evaluations are covered. The manual suggests approaches for selecting appropriate evaluation techniques, setting realistic goals and objectives, and assuring accountability. It also offers guidelines for conducting studies that will be helpful in planning and improving family resource programs. In addition, it suggests ways to build evaluation into family resource programs, to learn from experiences, and to incorporate this knowledge in program planning and development on an ongoing basis. The manual does not cover advanced evaluation research methods or statistical techniques. The guidelines rest on the view that all family resource programs should be involved in some type of evaluation. It also notes that each program must adapt the recommendations to fit its own needs.
