This book aims to help police officers prepare for promotional examinations; the text presents and answers the kinds of questions that these examinations typically contain and that deal with management and supervision.
Abstract
Topics include planning and budgeting, communication and order giving, problem solving, evaluations, interviewing, training, community policing, field operations, managerial authority and responsibility, discipline, employee grievances, the role of the supervisor, human relations, and personnel complaints. The book’s first part consists of 1,123 true-false questions, followed immediately by the answers and answer explanations. The explanations include background material intended to help the reader understand why the response indicated is appropriate for that question. The book’s second part presents five practice tests. The questions come from the questions in the book’s first part. A list of correct answers and a diagnostic chart follows each practice examination. Students can use the diagnostic charts to determine their strengths and weaknesses in particular areas. They can then use the cross-references in the lists of correct answers to review the explanations in Part One of the book. The introduction advises students first to answer all the questions in Part One, then to take the practice examinations and make diagnostic charts, and finally to review the areas in which they are weak.
