This report describes the programs that provide assistance to State and local criminal justice systems in addressing drug law offenses and violent crime and that will be funded in fiscal year 1993 by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA).
Abstract
Areas of focus include community policing and innovative law enforcement; crime and drug abuse prevention; enhanced prosecution, adjudication, and corrections; intermediate sanctions, drug testing, and offender accountability; multijurisdictional task forces and complex financial investigations; and statistics, information systems, and technology. The programs are designed to promote coordination and cooperation among State and local agencies, encourage community involvement in drug and crime control activities, and provide guidance for leveraging other funding sources such as the BJA formula grants made available to each State. Some of the programs described in the plan are competitive and will be described in a separate publication that describes eligibility requirements and application procedures. Other programs are already in progress and will continue to receive funding.
