REPORT ON THE NATURE, CHARACTERISTICS AND INCIDENCE OF BURGLARY AND LARCENY OFFENSES COMMITTED IN CHARLOTTE MECKLENBURG COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA IN 1971.
Abstract
THIS REPORT PRESENTS A PROFILE ON THE CRIMES OF BURGLARY AND LARCENY BASED UPON AVAILABLE POLICE DATA. THE PURPOSE OF THE REPORT WAS TO PREPARE INFORMATION ON CRIMES SO AS TO ASSIST THE MECKLENBURG CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING COUNCIL IN ADVISING THE CITY AND COUNCIL GOVERNMENT ON NEW APPROACHES TO THE PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF BURGLARY AND LARCENY. TABLES ARE INCLUDED IN THE REPORT WHICH INDICATE THE FREQUENCY AND REPORTED VALUE IN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE OF DIRECT PROPERTY LOSS FOR THE VARIOUS SPECIFIC TYPES OF BURGLARY AND LARCENY OFFENSES. DISTINCTIONS ARE DRAWN BETWEEN RESIDENTIAL AND NONRESIDENTIAL BURGLARY WITH EACH TYPE BEING FURTHER ANALYZED AS TO TYPES OF PROPERTY TAKEN, MEANS OF ENTRY, AND DISTRIBUTION BY CENSUS TRACT, INCOME AND PREFERRED TIME PERIOD. INFORMATION IS ALSO PRESENTED ON LARCENY FROM MOTOR VEHICLES AND FROM INSIDE BUILDINGS. ALL SUCH INFORMATION IS FURTHER CONTAINED IN GRAPHS AND CHARTS.
